Hi, my name is Kylie. I’m a graphic designer, born and raised in Taiwan but now living in Oakland. I studied graphic design at a college in Taiwan with a bachelor’s degree, but after graduating from college, I decided to work in a different industry. It’s an interesting experience in my early 20s.
Before moving to the States, I worked in a big retail company in Taiwan. My job is planning the shelf display. A big part of my job is using my visual communication skills to help the sales grow.
It’s not easy to start a new life in a new country, but I’m also excited to face the challenges here. Luckily, I got plenty of time talking to myself and understanding my own personality. For me, not being afraid of stepping out of my comfort zone is my American Dream, and I want to see how far I can go in the future here in the United States, so I decided to take a two-year Graphic Design certificate class at Laney College, and I enjoyed it!
This is my fourth year living in the States. As an immigrant, I enjoy learning about different culture especially the food! Walking on the street, seeing different styles of typography makes me excited all the time. I love to learn the culture elements through food. I’m proud to have an East Asian and Western cultural background to enrich my design in many ways.
